Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake
Paula Deen makes amazing things with butter. This is one of them. Its somewhere between pumpkin pie, cake and cookie bars and soooooo yummy. I shall commence making one when the cream cheese has softened, and it will be dessert for tomorrow.  My best friend was visiting, and while I love her being here, I also like that today I can turn on loud music and stuff since her kids (who I also love)...

Halloweenhead snaks
I’ve been busy all day, rockin’ out to my jams and my roommate’s, cooking up snacks for my Halloween tapas/scary movie party to happen this evening. So far there are cute Rice Krispy Ghosts and a cheese ball. We’re making pig in a blanket mummies, mini calzone mummies and hummus with pitas and chips. Pictures coming later.

Mango Purée
This was an experiment and until the end I didn’t know how it would turn out… Well, I just chopped about a third of a mango in little chunks and instead of cooking it in water, I used peppermint tea. I cooked it until the mango was soft and I could squish it with a spoon, as a finishing touch I added a little sugar and lemon juice  The smell is, let’s call it...

Super kick ass Smoothie (that is really healthy...
I seriously got this from the Biggest Loser cookbook and I have to admit, I have ONE a day for one of my meals. 1/2 cup frozen strawberries Yoplait Key Lime Pie Yogurt (just one of the little plastic looking things of it) Squeeze a half of a lime for the juice 1/4 cup of milk Splenda (however much you need to make it sweeter) Combine all of it in a blender. Blend away. Drink it up....

Red Icing
If you’ve attempted to make red icing before and it only turns out pink, here’s what you do. You use Wilton Red (No Taste) food coloring. You’ll use quite a bit. I always like to add a little Wilton Red Red too. Then you have to let that icing sit for 24 hours for it to become dark. Also the trick to black frosting, is chocolate frosting and adding Wilton Black food coloring....

Cooking Mama
Having prepared an apple (+ other lovelies) crumble to the tunes of my last.fm library, I’m now waiting for the sauce to reduce for the chicken pie I’m making. It’s gonna be a nice, fattening evening. —sinkships

Kickass white sauce for pasta and other things...
Step 1: Put on some Demolition, Ryan Adams stylee. Step 2: Chop the following vegetables (give/take a few): mushrooms, courgettes, peppers, onions. Whatever size you want. Me, I prefer big chunks of veg but hey! Use your own judgement quantity-wise. Step 3: (meat optional) Melt some butter in a saucepan, whack in some basil and other awesome herbs and then cook some chicken pieces in it. When...

rain and yogurt
Its Rainy and cold in Atlanta. Unseasonably cold. Usually it isn’t chilly like this til late October. Tonight, no gym time. Just making yogurt. Speaking of which, I have to go check and see if the milk is the right temperature for adding yogurt without killing the culture…. -the_coffeegirl

Tonight, I'm making yogurt →
I read a couple recipes and it seems really easy. I’m hoping my thermometer is accurate and than I added in the yogurt to the milk at the right temp. I forgot to take whisk it into a small bit of warm milk and then add it back to the whole recipe to make it smoother. Oh well. Now the yogurt is in the oven, set on low, sitting in a water bath that I heated to 115degrees, with a thermometer in...

Red fruit sponge bonanza!
…is what I call my latest creation, a bakewell tart/upside-down cake hybrid involving strawberries and raspberries! What does one listen to whilst making it, I hear you ask? Well, gentle readers, my personal choice was Ryan Adams’ 29. Lovely! Now that that important issue has been resolved, I will continue with the recipe. The ingredients you will need are as follows: 300g/10oz...

make your own Frozen Yogurt →
Very similar to the recipe from my Yoga Journal for making my own yogurt, except with different techniques and freezing and such. So I will go ahead with making yogurt later this week. Shall  I take pictures and show you all how it goes? *the_coffeegirl

Sunday Sunday SUNDAY!
There is a coffeecake bakeoff at my house. The coffee cakes will be prepared off site and brought over at brunch time to be shared and judged by my elite squad of food judges. This came about because my friend Sharon kept going on about how her mom’s coffee cake is the best ever and can’t be duplicated, but is the basic Bisquick recipe. I know, I’m a snob, but the only Bisquick...

Earl Grey Shortbread Cookies.
I gave in and made cookies. I read through some recipes on food network and combined a couple together to make delicious Earl Grey Shortbread cookies. They are like having your cuppa Earl Grey steeped very lightly with cream. 8 Tbsp (1 stick ) cool, unsalted butter, cut into small pieces. 1/4 cup sugar 1 cup whole wheat flour 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/4 tsp salt 1 Earl Grey teabag, cut open ...

Pasta Sauce with Zucchini and Chicken Sausage
Super Simple sauce recipe for Tanya… Heat a large skillet on a Med-high burner. While the pan is heating, roughly chop 1/2 medium onion. Add a drizzle of olive oil to the hot pan and add onion. Drop in a teaspoon of jarred crushed garlic or about 2 cloves. (Put a pot of water on to boil for your pasta)Chop a medium zucchini in half lengthwise, and then into 1/4 inch slices. Add the...

Upcoming on Cookies and Jams...
Planning to make some blackeyed peas over the weekend. Mixed up some yummy trail mix and might share that recipe (although its evolving and changes a lot). Gave my overripe bananas to my roommate to freeze and use in smoothies, so no banana bread this week. Any requests? Listening to August and Everything after by Counting Crows. The_coffeegirl

More cupcakes →
I made these cupcakes for a birthday cookout this afternoon while listening to my Ryan Adams mix in Zune. Its a bit of a strange recipe, but they came out so soft and yummy. Kind of like a pudding cake. I kind of skimped on the amount of batter per cupcake because I heard I needed 17 cupcakes, and so I kind of frosted the cupcakes with the ganache after they cooled… they weren’t high...
